In the waiting room essay
In the Waiting Room
The play “In the Waiting Room” is about three women that are in a doctor’s office waiting room. These three ladies are from different centuries, with a different perspective of what beauty is. Each of the women represent there cultural standards of beauty in their specific time/ culture. The names of the women are Victoria, a woman from the nineteenth century suffering from “hysteria”. Wanda was a woman with her breast implants. Forgiveness from Heaven was a lady from the eighteenth century. From china and had a problem with toe because her feet were bound. This play was about the three different types of beauty and the cost that comes with achieving it.
The key message of this play was that sometimes beauty is not so beautiful at times. I also think that the key message of this play was that sometimes you need to satisfy your self and then other people. Some of the social comments that Lisa Loomer had about today’s society was that everyone is so obsess about being beautiful and in style that they would do any thing such as, in Wanda’s case where she had breast implants just to make herself feel more confident and more beautiful. I also think that some of her comments on society today were that people today do things to satisfy other people instead of them self’s.
I think that each of the three main characters involve each other. I think that these three characters; Wanda, Victoria, and Forgiveness from Heaven are involve because they can really connect to one another in a way that they are doing something to there body because of something or someone In the case of Wanda she has breast implants because she feels more confident and its what she thinks is that makes her more beautiful and what she sees in the media that is popular in beauty. Victoria puts on tight corsets because it’s what her culture thinks is beautiful; which is to have a thin waist. Also because it’s what her husband thinks is beautiful. Forgiveness from Heaven bounds her feet because of her culture and because her husband that thinks that bounding her feet is what makes her beautiful.
In the play “In the Waiting Room” there were two characters named Larry and ken. In the play Larry was the vice president of a drug company. Ken was an FDA officer. In the play these two talks about the medicine that Larry has and about what has happen to them and how they can’t give it to everyone that has cancer so they will just give it out and who ever get the cure they will get better. I think that Lisa Loomer in the play is trying to say that the government doesn’t pay that much attention to the public’s health.
The end to this book ended with Wanda telling a fairy tale. I think that this play ended like that because everyone wishes there life was like a fairy tale.

ancient greek women and sparta
1. How did women's roles in society differ from Athens and Sparta?
Some of the differences that the Athens and Sparta had were that athen women were a few steps away from slaves and at born girls were not expected to learn how to read or write. The women from Sparta had more advantages than the women in Athens because they were given a good education along with arts and athletics. A difference between the women of Sparta and the Athens was that the women from Sparta got married at a later age than the Athens.
2. If the Greeks are considered so advanced, so culturally elite, why do you believe gender equality (equality between men and women) was not established?
I think that back then the men and women didn’t think about gender equality I just think that because the women were to obey there husbands and do as they say and be the hose holder of there house.
3. Based on your understanding of women in Ancient Greek society, how do you think women were depicted by artists at this time?
I think that women in this tome were worshiped as goddesses, women that were strong female figures. I think that they were also looked about who they were and how there manners were.

Purdue News

This Article was about how fary tales have a bad message for kids in beauty. The author of this article explains how these fary tales give a bad message about what beauty is . In the article she explanes that in central europ these tales were used to explain the rolls of women and men and what is good and bad. I agree with the aticle when it says that hearing these messages cause young girls to turn away from activaties such as sports, carrees, and hard labor. I never thought that fairy tales could have a bad message untill I read this article. I think that this article will open the eyes of the parents who dont pay close atenshion to what they read to there children wethere they think its good or bad.

You tube video reflection
After i watch the video on You tube it really didnt shock me because its something that i see everyday when i turn on the TV. I think that this comercial is kinda true to what some people do to there body when they see these comercials of what the media thinks is beauty. This comercial was really good to watch because it showed all the covers of magazines and girls shaking there butt and then it showed what people do like turn anorexic.
Socratic seminar 2
The Socratic seminar that we had in class today was about a article that we read that was called In the eye of the beholder. This article was about the media and what the west thinks is beauty and other coulters. In the Socratic seminar we talked about how the media is hurting the public with there ideal of what beauty is. We talked about how the beauty is so different from other countries like Africa where they like there women to be fleshy to what the media hear think is real beauty. We went on to talking about how people have a set of mind that beauty is skinny with nice skin and beautiful hair. We also talked about how this is hurting the children that pay more attention to those commercials and look up to some of the people that come out in those commercials.
Some of my thoughts about what I read about the article and what we talked about was that people can be smart enough that they need to find there inner beauty first and then there outer beauty. I also think that some people are influenced to be skinny because sometimes they have there peers telling them to shed a few pounds.

Beauty in Youth
Something that I think that is beautiful about youth is that every young person has a lot to learn about through there life and a lot to see. I think that youth is beautiful because it is the only time to not worry about a lot of things and enjoy life. Youth is beautiful because you have a lot of experiences that you share with your friends.
A perfect human today is someone that is beautiful from the inside and the out side. Someone that is smart. Someone that knows everything, someone that is nice in all forms and that treats everyone equally.
A perfect person in my coulter is by being smart and being beautiful both physical and personality. A perfect person in my coulter knows a lot from were you come from and not forgetting about your family and friends. Also by being a studious person and be a good person no matter what.

The Article that i read was on women IN Mali and how they blach there skin to fit in with the other citizenz so that they wont be called second class citizens. The women in Mali bleach there skin to be ebullient and fit in with the other people that live there. When the women in mali dont bleach ther skin they sometuimes are ske to stay away from event were picture are taken. Many women in Mali say that they bleach them selfs because the men in mali perffer women with pallid skin.A musician named Al Hassan Soumali says that that he dessagrees that men from mali dont like women that lightend there skin.
Due to a survey that was takem it said that there was over 100 bleaching prodects. Some dermatologist say that bleaching ther skin is not salubrious for there skin because bleaching your skin cause's cancer especialy the poor women that buy there creams for cheap prices. A Malian physician says he dosent find women bleaching there skin salacious.

what beauty means to me?

Coulter: I think that coulter to me is beautiful because of new things you can learn about a religion or an ethnicity. I also think that culture is beautiful because it specks for it self about a time and place. Culture is a way some ethnicities tell a story whether it’s by dances, paintings, and sculptures.

Nature: I think that nature is beautiful because it give us the peace and relaxing feeling that everyone needs. I also think that it is beautiful because when you see the wilderness you see things that you would only see in books. Nature is beautiful because it comes from earth and is something that people don’t take the time to go out and enjoy.
